Cleaning train

So there I am stood at Great Bentley station as is so often the case at this time of the week when a train, which I initially thought to be a freight train due to it being deisel electric, came baralling past with so much hissing and steam I almost thought perhaps it was a steam train that just sounded like a deisel! Then it twigged. It was a cleaning unit with several cars of what I assume to be water jetblasting the rail head. And then in a moment it was gone and I was bored again :)

Update: Apparently it’s ice prevention not cleaning according to a friend of mine. And I thought I was sad :)

  1. I suspect that you caught Notwork Rail in ‘leaf prevention mode’.

  2. Hmmm - leaf prevention would make more sense than ice given it’s autumn, not cold enough for ice and they’re gearing up for the ‘leaves on the line’ excuses :)
