I’m not sure what is going on today but a quick look at the departure boards showed the existence of a 16:32 ’special service’ calling at Witham, Colchester and the make believe places that claim to exist beyond there. Special services can never be good. they smack of ‘this train is supposed to be somewhere else but for one reason or another it’s not so we’ll cram people on it and try to put a positive spin on it’. the 16:30 was not reporting any problems so I must admit that not much more heed was paid to this impostor.

I can’t help but be curious as to whether this train actually ran or not as minutes before the 16:30 pulled out hordes of people traipsed on with that dejected look of the recently dislocated. I suspect the ’special’ service turned out not to be very special at all and those duped into trying to catch it were told to get the 16:30 instead.
