No Apology Needed

I was being a bit dozy last night and wasn’t really paying attention to where I was so when the train pulled into my station I had to jump out of my seat, rescue my bag and get off the train. Unfortunately for the poor lady sat behind me I managed to stand on her foot while trying to execute this rather rushed manoeuvre. Since I needed to make a sharp exit before the door closed I had time to proffer the most meagre of apologies and was expecting to be met by, at the very best, a harsh look. Instead she also proffered an apology, seemingly for being inconsiderate enough for leaving her foot somewhere where it might be trodden on. Dear lady, you apology is not needed, for it was I who was in the wrong, but it was most welcome. I bestow upon you the title of model commuter.
